I am a white African. Contradiction in terms? I think not. Sometimes my blog will be serious; sometimes sad; sometimes irreverent; sometimes witty; always my truth simply written.

AN EYE FOR AN EYE

Walk
with me
out of this
locked-down cell block.
My reluctant legs
are quivering with fear.
‘Dead man walking’ resonates.
Death’s rancid breath creeps down my spine
as, seeing your tears, I mouth: ‘Sorry’.

Walk with me out of this locked-down cell block.

  2. Hi Sumit. Thanks again for reading and commenting. I would love it if you would try this format sometime... The syllable count is: 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 and then 1/2/3/4 are repeated as a statement separated by one line from the main body of the poem. I call it Dectina Refrain (I invented it and Luke Prater of Facial Expressions Poetry Circle on fb named it for me.)
